Replacing lifters preparing
I'm getting set up out in the garage to tear this engine down, and replace the lifters.
Just wondering if anybody has any advice or pointers, that would save some time and headache.
I've never done this before, but I have tools, a case of beer, and nothing but time.. Any advice or pointers before I get started?

Grab your grinder and cut the stud off of #14? The head bolt nearest the driver and the firewall. Makes life easier. After removing everything, I threw a strap underneath the head and ran it around a 2x4 perpendicular to the head. Then I had my wife grab one end, I manned the other side, and we lifted the head off. Have a place to set it.
Before you put the valve cover back on, shoot some video of the lubrication you're getting with the new lifters in place. Compare it to the video of the old lifters in action.
Bet you're gonna find those little springs (inside the lifter, the baby hair ones) almost gone or completely useless.
Good luck.
