Default Replacement Power Outlet - 1997 Cherokee

Howdy everyone,

My 20 amp dash power outlet on my 97' Cherokee Sport went bad. I have searched Amazon, Ebay, and various auto sites looking for a replacement. I have not found one. I am likely missing it, but where can one find one (besides a used one with no guarantees)? Thanks

Have you checked the fuse? The power outlet is #1 in the JB. It should be a 25amp (light tan), not a 20 (yellow).

The plug-in charger for my cell phone glows orange, showing it has power, but it charges for a second or two than quits. The very same charger works fine in the cigarette lighter outlet, and in the outlet in my 18 wheeler . . . no problems. I am thinking I need to replace the power outlet.

I'd check for corrosion, maybe you can just clean it up.

Clean the inside of the lighter first before tearing into it lol.

Yes and yes. That's a classic symptom of corrosion, probably in the socket itself, or possibly in the power lead going to it, or in the ground lead.

I want to thank you all for your help with the bad power outlet. For sure, if you plug in a tested working charger the charger lights up (indicating power) but it does not charge, even though the lightning bolt symbol on the cell phone shows it is charging. If you leave it plugged in it just steadily drains the cell phone battery. I am down to two actions. First, I will try to clean the outlet, though I am not sure how, though I will start with unplugging the battery and perhaps remove it and look for corrosion. Second, I will replace it. Thanks again.
