I am pretty sure you are talking about the check valve. If that is what you are reffering to than I am almost positive you have to replace the whole pump assembly on the 00/01 not just the pump. I am facing the same issue. Unfortunately like mentioned by jomps the only reliable pump I have heard of using is oem or bosch which is going to cost you about $320.

jomps Nov 21, 2011 02:21 PM

yeah I would drop in whole new module/assembly imo

I bought a complete Bosch assembly from Amazon for $200, and yes I would definitely recommend replacing the entire unit while you're in there. Also, be aware that the lock ring is plastic and I tore mine up trying to remove it and ended up having to dremel it off and buy a replacement. Thankfully the replacement is not expensive, but it was a major nuisance. There is a special tool you can buy to get it off and I recommend you either get that in advance or get a new lock ring in advance.

If your referring to the pressure reulator on the fuel pump this and the fuel filter are one unit you can replace this , it is a seperate unit than the fuel pump on 1997 and later jeep's.On 1996 this is one whole unit and has to be replace all together. good luck.

Remember the 1997 and later pumps are a two piece unit fuel pump one unit , pressure reg, and fuel filter another unit. The 1996 is one whole unit.

I am trying to get this straight for myself also. So lets assume that the problem he is having is that it is difficult to start after sitting (the fuel pressure "check valve" is not holding the pressure in the line after sitting with the engine off). Is the "check valve" that I am referring to the same thing as the pressure regulator that is only included in the whole replacement assembly. Or is it a part of the actual pump.

1 Attachment(s)
this is whole assembly minus rubber gasket:top part is check valve/regulator which Im pretty sure can be replaced separately....bottom is pump....

No, the part that holds the prime is not the fuel pressure regulator/fuel filter, it is a rubber o-ring that is inside the fuel pump assembly and it can be replaced individually without replacing the entire unit. You can either find your own ring from a parts store or hardware store or order the o-ring kit from a Mopar parts dealer. I ordered one and think it was around $30, but ended up canceling my order when I realized I would rather just replace the whole deal while I was in there.

oh sorry 4doors i have no clue how i overlooked that haha i heard you cant replace the check valve. that the whole assembly has to be changed. even if this is true, for 200 and the trouble of going into the tank should i just replace the whole thing? my jeeps a 2000 with 101k on it.

That's what it boiled down to for me, and my decision was to just replace the whole deal. It's a fact that you can take the assembly apart (at least on some later models, not sure about earlier ones) to replace the o-ring and fix the issue of long starts due to the pump losing its prime. I've seen a thread on a different forum that had pictures of the o-ring replacement, I'll see if I can dig it up.
