Default Replaced rear main and oil pan gasket...now grinding noise

Hello everyone.
Wrenched on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee this weekend and replaced the rear main seal, and oil pan gasket. Added oil this evening and started the Jeep, now I have a horrible grinding noise.

Everything was torqued to spec, but I’m thinking the starter is not disengaging. Before I remove and test I wanted to see if anyone else has run across this issue. I’d really hate to do this all over again.

Careful there, you don't want the starter eating the teeth there! (of course). I'd ask to hear it but maybe you should check the starter before you run it again. And No, that's a new one to me. the fan isn't hitting something....And again No, I can't imagine what could be grinding inside the pan.

The fan isn’t hitting anything, just the grinding noise. While I’m down there I’m also going to check the torque converter plate.

You did put the bearing cap on in the same direction you took it of, right? I wouldn't think it would make a grinding but you would eventually have issues.

Well I replaced the starter and now it’s running. The previous owner replaced it a month before I bought it 6 months ago, and fortunately I was able to look up the warranty information at Autozone. Stinking valucraft starter go figure, the Bendix was shot and was chattering around. However, the starter tested good at three different parts houses. I also replaced the broken valve cover bolt I discovered and replaced the valve cover gasket. No wonder it was leaking so much oil! Next project will be the oil filter adapter.

Removed the broken bolt by slowly etching a slot to fit a standard screwdriver.

Was nice to get it off of jack stands.

Yea! Success! (now put a drop of crazy glue on that cut on your finger and your all set)

Default Not giving up

Well I drove around for a couple hours yesterday and the TPS went out. Barely made it home because it didn’t want to shift out of first. Replaced the sensor and all is well now. My cousin who owns two trail rigs (wranglers of course) told me last night “welcome to Jeep”. Oh well, love wrenching on it when I can/have to.

Glad it wasn't what I had posted.

HAVE FUN!!! Oh and if you're bored head out to Texas and help me do the seal replacement - when you're ready of course.
