Default Reniz Cruise Control Issues

(1989 XJ with the I-6)

My cruise control has been working terribly these past few months. It [sort of] works at low speeds like 35-45 mph then it won't engage at any speed over that. Even at low speeds with the CC engaged it can't keep the throttle steady so it's sort of gas-no gas- gas throttle application if that makes sense. If I hold the accelerate button on the stalk to the side I can feel it working but very faintly at high speeds like 65-70 mph. I adjusted the transmission cable, and reset the adjustments on the yellow box back to the factory positions and further adjusting with every highway drive but with no luck. It would be cool if someone can make sense of this since I will be using it for an 8 hour drive soon. Thanks.

Mine is not working either on my '87 but did you check the vacuum ball for leaks? There is less engine vacuum at higher RPMs so that might be somewhere to start. The lines go from the actuator along the right side to the front bumper (underneath).

Fixed it. I was working on some stuff under the dash and decided to unplug the cruise control box and use the compressed air computer duster to blow out any dust possibly ruining a connection, then I did a little fidgeting with the adjustment screws, plugged it back it, and viola, it works again! Even better than before! I set the speed and it doesn't accelerate at all and doesn't decelerate and is oh so smooth!

I think that's Refresh Connections Before Replacing Components.

Part of the Renix lore. Don't worry, you'll get used to it.

Yeah. It just gets pretty humid where I live and I already spotted some corrosion starting. Just want to preserve the connections.
