Renix Ignition Issues
Hi everyone! I've got a 1987 Wagoneer XJ and I'm having some weird ignition issues. Occasionally when I get in and turn the key and nothing happens there is still accessory power but no starter action. I pop the hood and pull the green wire that goes to the starter solenoid touch it to the positive battery cable and it starts right up . After I drive around for a while turn off the car and try to start it again, it works just fine . The problem is is occasionally my jeep will suddenly die in traffic and then I get no ignition. I then have to pop the hood and jump start it in an intersection. No fun. Just wondering if anyone has had similar problems. Any help would be appreciated . Thanks!
Also I have one of those AMC key switches that usually doesn't require a key anymore. Don't know if that's relevant.

I'll definitely do that , I'll even replace the current connector altogether. I've had to do this a couple of dozen times now I would think the copper should be pretty fresh by now …

Hey Dan, I'm sort of a Renix guy....The random stall and the no solenoid seem separate at first, until you consider the switch is common to both. I might try jiggling it's plug after a stall or a no start. The start relay just powers the Sol and fuel pump while cranking, then started the ECU grounds the fuel relay. Cruisers Renix tips and some other renix stuff is in my sig. Recommended you look good at tips one through 5.

Yes, under there on top of the column. I gather bad connection at the plug can make it overheat and melt both the plug and switch. I'm nearly 300# and over 6'...have not even seen mine very well!

Added a second ground from the intake manifold to the firewall and another from the battery to the radiator support and I haven't had a problem for a few months now. Thanks cruiser54, you've done it again!
