Renix factory oil pump life
I have a 1990 xj with the Renix 4.0 just hit 155k with the Original factory oil pump... How long do they last for? The Jeep has had strict oil changes every 3k or so... and the oil is a little dirty but no metal has ever been found in it..... My factory guage is reading a little low for my liking about 22psi when warm only and at idle.. I did a search on this and I did not find anything on this... any help or opnion on this would be great thank you

Haha. I found the thread!! Seems there used to be a thought that Renix, or HO for that matter, oil pumps failed about 135K miles. Not sure it's true.
Check your pressure with a mechanical gauge before doing anything further. BTW, what oil filter are you using?
Oh, and BTW: LONG LIVE RENIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Almost 600000Km, don't tell the Peep that the pump was supposed to fail?
Must have missed that day at XJ school. Even changed the rotted pan back at 316000, pump still strong.
Pressure - Hot vs Cool 22 -28 psi idle, 45-58 psi at speed. Pressure does drop toward the lower values as the oil goes past 5000 km.
Oil and filter every 5 - 7K Km will do you just fine.

I'm not sure my idiot light even comes on. It might be fine for 270K I honestly don't know about 271K . I'm not familiar with the pump failing before something else, like a rod bearing or a piston. Course a rod will go soon after the pump though. I've been using the Wix that NAPA sells as theirs. NAPA Gold I guess. (don't use Castrol 30W on saw blades or drill bits. They won't cut well)

The only failure I've had was at 220Kmiles. I've got another with 350K on the clock and still giving good pressure. I've heard of them running 500-600kmiles without major issues.
If it's not a maintenance item, it's (theoretically) a lifetime part. However, who can say what that lifetime will be?
(I hate it when people ask questions like this, because there is no answer that will make sense. Oil pumps? I've seen them fail at 20K. I've seen them to 1,000,000. Who can say? If you want to know in advance when to replace your oil pump, I suggest you invest in a crystal ball - I've got one, but it's got a small crack...)

The port is 1/8" NPT, you can get a T and close nipples at your local hardware store (suggest brass.) A local fluid power house can usually supply the "dry-break" QD fittings, you probably lose about two drops' worth of oil (it's not a true "dry" break, but it's close enough.)

As stated the oil pump is not a part that is condemned at a certain mileage mark.
Under normal/good conditions the pump will out live the vehicle. Oil changes at regular intervals with good quality oil and filter, filled to the correct level and never overheated. Quickest way to reduce pump life is to go beyond the acceptable time table for an oil change and running low on oil because of a leak or internal engine fault.
You would not believe how many vehicles come through my shop where you remove the oil drain plug and not enough to fill a coffee cup comes out..

Or comes out looking like molasses. We had a Duramax come through the shop one day. The oil in the filter had completely solidified and what little came out of the oil pan just kind of oozed out. I was amazed it came in under its own power.
