What does this do? I have a 1990 xj wagoneer without abs. When I bought it the axle shafts had tone rings and there were no speed sensors. Also it has the stock mc and brake booster, no abs motor or accumulator. Can I remove the module without any consequences?

I don't know if it is the case with the Renix XJs, but it has been commonplace to for US auto makers to include electronics/wiring for full options in autos that did not get outfitted with all those options. That way, the dealership could add those options much more easily if buyers wanted them.

For example, I was working on a 2009 Ford F150, putting an aftermarket stereo in it. The Ford had an outlet for 120vac on the console but it did not work because they hadn't paid for that option. Everything for that inverter system was already in the truck, but the connector to the outlet was never connected so it wouldn't work. If they had paid the $300whatever for that option, the dealer would have just plugged in that connector.

The automotive industry is a funny biz...

Sounds about right. Unfortunately I'm away from the jeep till next weekend so the brake controller will have to wait. There doesn't appear to have been a swap from the factory abs the jeep just came with a few extras.
