Removing ZJ coils at PIY JY

What would be the easiest way to remove the coils from a ZJ at a Pull it yourself junk yard. I want to use these for a slight lift for my 99XJ. I never seen the suspension on a zj before and am curious to know if there is a easy way that would not be to time consuming to remove these springs?

coil compressor clamp. unless you wanna take off the whole front axle. well at least most of the axle. trac bar, shox, control arms, sway bar.

Go to JY that allows you to take in a jack. Jack it up and put cinder blocks under frame to let the axle droop. Take off both front tires and loosen coil spring retaining bolt, then pull the springs free. If this does not work take coil spring compressors with you and compress them to remove. Also a trick is to stand on the axle to get it to droop lower so that you can remove it.

So it really doesnt seem to difficult then. Are there bump stops in the zj coils? This seems to be easier than removing them from my XJ.

i dont see why there wouldnt be bump stops

it was just me thinking too much i guess. I have a good idea of how they come off now. Going this weekend to spend the day in the jy looking for stuff for the xj. fun fun. Rear bumper with tire carrier would be a great find.

I used a scissor jack from an older Dodge car to force the axle down enough to release the springs, but it was sketchy at best.

If it had slipped out, it could have been bad. I tied a coat hanger around it to slow it down if it did come out, but it might have made little difference.

Be careful, jeeps are heavy!

The junkyards I go to here, they let me take my truck and tools out into the yard all alone. They will even come out with a loader if I need it to lift the jeep, trucks ,etc. They even will come by with the yard truck with the torches for ya. Will they do that if you ask 'em to ,I dont know but maybe?
