Remove A/C Pump?

Just got my Jeep, the A/C is shot and pump makes a lil noise so I think it's probably causing a drag on my motor. I never use A/C I'm a 4x50 type guy.

Is it possible to just remove the A/C and get a new serpentine belt? My motor is the 2.5L.

Thanks!

There is a bypass pulley you can buy and put in its place

Yeah, I might have to do that.

I was looking up parts for it and saw that w/o A/C they didn't use a serpentine belt and I'm pretty sure the thermostat housing would get in the way of the belt running.

Ok .... so, where do you get this pulley? I'm SO tired of hassle of working around the A/C pump to change the #1 plug. .... and yes, I have to do it again, that's why this search and post.

Here's an update to my A/C modification.
If I can I'll upload a picture. Basically I cut the pump in half diagonally removing all the insides. I used the original mounting base and cut the pump off on a large curve leaving the rotating part that actually worked the pump pistons. I hand lube it with a squirt from he oil can every couple months. Remember the outside bearing never gets lube from the inside anyway.

Caution: put a protective wrap around the water hose that passes by it. Mine has a small cut in it that I just discovered.

NOTE: THE SMALL WATER HOSE IS MOVED OVER THE PULLEY FOR EASY VIEWING.
