Default 89 cherokee electrical/power problems plz help

My jeep has recently started acting funny. The other day i left from a friends house and i am going down the road and all of the sudden my jeep seemed like it was loosing power and cutting in and out and my radio shutting off.

After a few seconds of this surging type crappy idle everything seems back to normal so i proceeded home.

Today i get in the car and drive 25 miles and on the way back it does it again felt almost like it was choking for gas like wanting to stall then a second later picking back up then a second later choking did this about 6 time then straightened out the radio had also shut off again but i believe it comes back on. This was before i fully left home.

So i leave the radio off i get about 10 miles down the road and all the sudden it starts doing the dieing choking trick i also this time notice my alt meter is going way down to the white line just after the orange color was just a tad above the white line.

All the dash lights seemed to come on for a second and then go out the low gas light took a minute or so to go out. I have never seen this happen before never once had a dash warning light from anything come on except from using the ebrake or 4wd.

I let off the gas and the alt meter seemed to go back up towards the middle so i pressed down the petal again to try and maintain speed and the alt meter goes back down thing still choking dieing again i let off petal and press down again and everything seems back to normal alt meter goes back up to just above 14.

I have already had my stock alternator replaced once i believe it was 80amp refurb from advanced auto this was maybe 2 years ago.

I run an aftermarket stereo i had 2 batterys at one time i had a excide basic stock starting battery under the hood and a marine deep cycle in the rear.

The starting battery got weak and would not start the car no more so i took it out it had a dead cell so i got rid of it.

I ended up testing my rear battery it was holding charge good so i put that under the hood started great ever since.

The 2 amps i run are fairly new i had rockford and sony 6 months ago i replaced the door amp with new power accoustik for the door speakers and 3 months ago i picked up another for the subs both amps have 50 amp fuses.

The only thing i did recently was unhook the amps and subs because one woofer fell out of my box the speakers are fairly heavy had to install new screws.

So anyways i hooked everything back up last week after i secured the speakers the other sub ended up being loose so i secured it.

Did not notice a problem with anything infact everything actually sounded better.

The only stupid thing i have done in the last 6 months was try and jump some guys nissan xterra suv the battery seemed dead which i told the guy he thought it was something else so he asked me to jump him.

The guy is cranking and cranking while my car is idle and nothing is going on did this for about a minute before i said this makes no since its not doing anything its a waste of time. So the guy says a batt is 100+ cant afford it really.

So i tell him wally world just get one that will work and fit for now if you have to you might find one cheaper that isnt stock oem labeled so the guy gets the 60$ one and bingo car starts right up.

So anyways what could this be the alternator going out??

If so where would i get a decent replacment?? i have been looking into a higher output maybe around 140 but have not seen many for my renix cherokee. I thought i seen some on like ebay or some place cheap but i cannot seem to find the place i saw them i do know that newer cherokees are different 1992+ i have herd so i have to be carefull about this most out there are for the ho cherokees externally regulated.

Also i had been thinking maybe i can get a alternator/starter place to rewind and maybe upgrade the one i got to atleast 120 amp.

My jeep has not fully died yet so any advice would be be good i hope i do not have a short somewhere.

You would almost think that if my amp power wire was touching something that a fuse would just blow

I would begin by visiting www.cruiser54.com and performing Tip 1.

After that, do 2,3,4 and 5.

Ok well I had not checked anything out too good . I mentioned that this problem seemed to start after I rehooked up my stereo.

Come to find out my battery cable appears in rough shape and burnt out looking some how my positive battery cable ended up rubbing against some coolant line and melting through it near the battery end so the cable burnt up.

I cant figure it out never noticed the cable leaning against anything hot when I hooked everything up. but some how it touched a hot part of the line

Ah, close inspections and maintenance. 2 things that go hand in hand........
