Hey, i have a 91 jeep cherokee with 186,000 miles on it. i've found antifreeze in my oil a couple times and decided its time for a new engine. currently, its slow and sluggish and has episodes where i'll suddenly have no response from the throttle, it will sputter and rumble, kick down a gear and take off. it will do this for about 3 miles then quit for a week or two. i've replaced the fuel filter, transmission mount (leaked oil all over. possible damage but mechanic said no.), and fluids. i'm either replacing the engine or rebuilding it, but i want to know if i will notice a difference in performance or not. will i have my powerful torquey jeep back or is it just slow and old?

Don't be surprised if one of the sensors has gone bad, might transfer the drivability issues to the new motor until it's found and replaced. Probably easier to diagnose once you have a good motor that doesn't have head/gasket problems.
You could to some rudimentary electrical tests on the CPS, TPS and a fuel pressure check to help sort things out.

Turns out my pcv system was clogged allowing condensation in my oil. I cleaned it all out, replaced the system and cleaned the throttle pads. I did some tests on my cat converter for back pressure and that turned out clean. What can I do to get my jeeps performance back? I've don't tune ups, oil changes, the works. But the thing is still slow.
