Rear Main Seal replacement question
 

I've read these write ups

And have two questions.
the first...Are they speaking of rubbing with bar soap or using liquid soap?
and the second...The second write up makes use of gasket-maker, is the first using Loctite instead?

"Once the upper half is in, coat both sides of the lower seal half’s end tabs with gasket maker, make sure not to get any sealant on the lip of the seal. Next coat the outer surface of the lower seal with soap and the lip of the seal with engine oil, as you did with the upper half. Press the seal into the bearing cap to seat it firmly. Apply gasket maker to both angled edges of the bearing cap, then replace the bearing cap and torque the bolts to the specified torque."

I guess I'm not really getting where the gasket maker goes, but am thinking it is the same ares write-up 1 shows a pic with loctite on the edges of the cap. Is there somewhere els t is being used? The second write-up makes it sound like two different places to me, or is it simply under and over the tab ends and up the cap sides a bit? Is loctite 518 fine for this or should i get gasket maker or is loctite 518 and permatex #2 considered "gasket maker" stuff

36 views and nobody even know if it is liquid or bar soap to use? I feel stupid asking but feel either could be a lubricant to help seat the seal so...

I would think dish soap. Just used as lubrication to get the new seal in there without puncturing it. Think what soap would make the seal the slimiest/most slippery.

And it looks like when he says Loctite, he just means RTV. Loctite goes on threads, not on mating surfaces.
