I hate that chart. Noobs look at it and still can't tell the difference between the Dana 35 and 8.25. I couldn't tell the first time I tried to use it.
This is a better picture, because it shows the most distinguishing feature (which isn't on that chart). The one on the left is the Chrysler 8.25, and it is easily identified by the flat bottom on the pumpkin. The one on the right is the Dana 35, easily identified by the round bottom.
Also, if you want your build sheet, you may be able to get it through the Jeep website. Go to this page and enter your VIN in the lower box where it says "VIN":
https://jeep.custhelp.com/app/jeep/eqlisting_detail
There's a disclaimer that says it won't work for vehicles prior to 1998, but that's not necessarily true. Some people with earlier years have gotten their build sheets out of this thing. It spits it out at you in PDF format, so save it to your computer and enjoy. If it doesn't work for your VIN, use the link below the box to email Chrysler to request your build sheet to be emailed to you.

No, I don't lick fish.
I believe the disclaimer is there because certain RPO codes have changed to reflect different options. I.E. mine has code "ARCP Rubicon Group"..... which definitely never appeared on an XJ and certainly not a 1992 XJ at that.
So you'll be able to get your build sheet but don't be surprised if there some options listed that your XJ doesn't have. The mechanical specs and whatnot should be correct though.

Is going back with the Chrysler a suitable option? i won't be trail riding or rock climbing it will be just a driver. Somebody abandoned her in a train yard and I got it free. It has 331.000 on the clock and runs like a champ minus the rear end. I had an 85 in high school and it just has sentimental value and just want to get it back going.

Any time!
And yes, I would definitely go back with the Chrysler. It's direct bolt-in and you can find them with 29 spline axle shafts under many XJs from 97+ (96 and down - like your 95 - have 27 spline... so try and get one for a 97+). It's much stronger than the Dana 35, arguably as strong as the Dana 44, and as was said is direct bolt-in over the Ford 8.8
May I ask, what's wrong with your current axle?
