Rear diff vent tube question
Hey all, i've been a long time reader but my jeep is only now getting to a point where stuff is starting to wear out and needs fixing so now starts the questions.. I have a 97 4 door cherokee SE with about 170k on it. She's completely stock but I want her to last as long as possible. My first issue has been with the rear diff. Its a Dana 35 and it started with a slow leak a while back and has steadily increased. I recently changed the gasket but the leak continued, appearing to come from the rubber plug and a bit from the drive shaft connection. After a lot of research I found that the vent tube may be clogged. I removed it and tried blowing through it first connected to the axle then the connected to the port in the body. There was quite a bit of resistance when blowing into the body end of the tube so i'm thinking it's somehow clogged on that end. For now I just ziptied the hose to the brake lines above the axle. Obviously I can't leave it like that with a open tube to the axle. My question is what is on the other side of the port that connects into the body? Is there a way to unclog it? I have not been able to find any explanation as to what is on the other side. My other option is to extend the breather to another location, which I may do anyway. Any help is much appreciated!
