Rear diff cover?
I have a 97 XJ with abs so it is a D35. Here is my problem. I don't like the rubber fill plug so I did some research and found that all Jeeps with D35 have the same gasket. I ordered a used cover off of Ebay from a Jeep YJ so it will have a screw in plug. I got a new gasket at Autozone for my year XJ and the holes on the gasket and the YJ cover are not the same. What gives?

i believe there's 2 ways of aligning the the bolt holes...make sure it's not upside down or backwards.
match up the cover to the rear diff and make sure they match. if they do match and the gasket still don't match, just use some rtv sealant as a gasket, it works fine.

if the cover is ment for a d35, and u got the correct gasket then it should all line up. just spin the gasket till it lines up. if its a paper gasket, then apply some rtv to the diff, then apply the gasket, then apply some more rtv to the diff cover and bolt it on ater wipe off the extra.

Thanks for the help guys. I think that my liberal use of brake cleaner clouded my judgement, I got it to line up after my head cleared.
