Default Rear Brake install help Please

Well after replacing my front rotors and pads, I decided to see what the rear looked like. Found there had been a new hardware kits installed with possibly new brakes that don't look like they have been getting used. After a bit more inspecting, I notice that the self adjuster wasn't even up against the star wheel like it should be. So, I look at my book and it shows a different set up all together. Can someone possibly send or post a picture of what a 98 XJ rear brake set up should look like. I'm specifically looking to see how the self adjuster is hooked up but, all would be nice.

Thanks for the help

Typically when I do rear brakes, I'll pull both drums, then I have a copy to look at when I'm working if needed.
If the auto slack adjuster is not touching the wheel to turn it its possible someone got the adjuster on backwards or on the wrong side.

the adjuster cable could be streached or installed incorrectly. once a year i remove adjuster & clean/lube threads. keep us informed

The problem i am having is that it seems that the brake adjuster cable is too long and is not pulling back on the piece that should keep the star from spinning. that metal piece hangs down and touches the drum.

You can get a new cable for the auto adjuster at most parts stores, The cable can and does stretch over time.

Thanks for all the help. Problem solved... just twist the cable a couple times before hooking the bottom part to the adjuster lever.
