rear axle on stock??

I ws just wondering if any one can confirm that on a 98 xj classic 4.0L the rear axle is a chrysler 8.25? I'm just checking because I'm getting bigger leaf packs and need the correct u bolts

Thanks!

Which one of these does your diff cover look like? Chrysler 8.25 is an easy spot because of the small space in the lip along the bottom and top in the center.

I always that that was the 44....I've got the 8.25, but it didn't come with a hitch when we got it. We got an aftermarket one installed. Not to mention I don't have a trans cooler, but it's a manual anyway....:whistling2: For all I know, someone could've taken all that off at some point, but IDK

Get your build sheet

Get your factory build sheet here to know what your Jeep has.

Followed the link to my build sheet. On page 5 which is under the "optional equipment" it says "8 additional Gallons of gas" What the heck does that mean?

I know that one....when they ship it from the factory they put 8 gallons of gas in it. I worked at a dealership in the '90's every Jeep we got had 8 gallons of gas in it.

^ Thanks. I'm sure that's it. I took it as saying I had a 28 gallon tank. Which I knew was wrong because it never takes more than 17 gallons or so when on E.

I think 87-91 XJ's with the tow package came with the 44's.
Perhaps the the manuals came the the 8.25 also, I don't know, just a guess
Mine has the tow package and also has the 8.25. That much I do know:icon_smile:

It was the 87-88 Mj that had the 44 with tow package, 86' I believe had the amc20 if it had the tow package.

Can't rely on if the 98' had a 8.25" if it has abs brake system, it most likely has a d35
