Angry Really pissed...Jeep died after a little bit of wheelin' again.

Idfk what the hell is wrong with my Cherokee but it really pisses me off. Today, I did a little bit of wheelin' then turned her off and tried to start her up but she barely ran.
Here's what I did:
First, I crossed a 5" creek-no problem
Then, I just drove up and down some grassy bluffs (most of it was steep)
I had it in 1st

Then, I parked on some near level ground, turned her off then a few minutes later, I started her up but she barely ran (it was running very weak and would hardly go) but I had to get it back across the creek so I did, then right on the other side, she just sputtered out.

I could get her started but just barely, and she wouldn't go anywhere. So I turned her off, took a look under the hood and tried again, but nothing. So I waited about 10 minutes for my buddy with his truck. Then I go to start her up again and she goes, but runs weak. So I drove it around a bit, and it was fine.

IDFK what is wrong. It's very frustrating.

Also, another time I crossed like 6" of water (a freakin civic could do that) and she died on me, but it seemed more like it was just running rough that tome.

Any help please?

Thanks

Try the old redneck test, when its dark lift the hood and use a spray bottle with a mist setting, spray the plug wires and cap look for arc. worked with my old wood truck, it looked like the fourth of july under the hood.

get some dielectric grease and put in on both ends of the wire, also make sure that the seal between the cap and distributor is good-redneck test works as well

the wires going to the alternator wouldnt make it run different, just discharge the battery and the jeep would die, I am would definately check the cap and also the rotor to make sure its not too corroded in there

most likely distributor cap, my buddy has a dakota, and cracked the distributor cap pretty bad, and any time he went through water his truck would stall, and wouldnt start, or just sputter, so we would have to wait for the cap to dry, then it ran fine, so check the cap

you might check the ballest resiter located on the driverside fender for the fuel pump, it maybe cracked and overloading it on fuel

i have a similar problem occaisionally. Last time it went something like this: Start her up, drive around a bit, running fine. Stop, get out...go shopping at autozone, get back in and try to start, and the engine barely holds an idle . Stepping on the gas doesnt really help. After maybe a minute of this, it gets better, so i can put it into drive and start to move...then like magic its back to normal. Funky thing is, this is on a 2001, with a distributor-less ignition. I have no clue. Its only happened 3 times now, but it kind of has me worried.

this has happened to me a couple of times too actually, maybe not the exact same problem you are having, but something similar, this has happened 3 or 4 times, when i start it up it is at extremely low rpm's, and giving it gas does nothing really except makes it sputter more, but after about 45 seconds to a minute it starts running right... it hasn't happened often so i never got it checked out, but it seems like im not getting any fuel

Yea like others said just check the rotor cap....

I just recently ran into a similar problem with mine come to find out it was one of the wires arching on the ac lines attatched to the compresser......So i wrapped the line in electrical tape and it was fine.....

Good Luck.....

The distributer cap and C.P.S. is where I would start looking. The cps is located at to of the bellhousing on the driver sideat the top of the block.
