alright well i'm buying some 35 inch tires from my buddy to put on my cherokee and i've read a little bit about guys having to re-gear after runnin that big of tire. I was just wondering if this was a nessesity or if i could run my stock 3.07's for a while and still be able to go wheelin and have some fun

It's personal preference, really. Your Jeep will be a serious bigtime Dog when in 2HI and 4HI. You may be able to tollerate it when 4wheeling in 4LO but, even then it will have way less ***** than it has now. To get the same performance out of your Jeep with the stock tires and 3.07s, with the 35s, you will need 4.88s optimal or at least 4.56s.

oh, and another thing. I'm assuming you have a manual tranny since you said you have 3.07 gears. I wouldn't run the 35s and 3.07s for very long or you'll be putting a new clutch in your Jeep. Plan on slipping it a lot to get those big heavy tires moving with those tall gears.

I run 4.56s and 33s right now and my Jeep is perfectly in it's power band. I really don't think that 33s to 35s is that big of a difference. I think you will be fine with 35s and 4.56s.

Sorry to jack a thread but it's sort of relevant. You said that 35's on stock gears may be worse than stock tires wheeling, is this true with 33's also? I would have expected that even though the tires are taking more power to use they would still grab more and be able to climb/wheel better. This true?

The same thing I said about stock gears and 35s applies to stock gears and 33s. You are correct, the larger mud terrain tires will grab better but your engine will lack the power to turn them as strong as it would with stock size tires and stock gears.

So, let's say I was going to go with 33's but I could only have stock gears for the time being. I would wheel it, but the other guy in back of me with a completely stock jeep could do the exact same stuff? Makes sense, but I don't like it...
This makes me want to get 31's unless I have enough money to re-gear when the times comes.

alright sweet well it's time to find some 4.56's anyone know a good place that sells em that aren't too pricey? and should i have some install them or do you think it wouldn' t be to hard to do by myself? oh yeah one more question do i have to put 4.56's in front and rear? lol
no but with the Manuel tranny it will give you the bottom end back and be easier on the tranny. but there wont be a huge difference but for 35's 4.88 would be my setup just encase you want to go larger later
