Rattling through puddles
Hope someone can help with this.
We have had a lot of rain in Scotland, today when I took the XJ into town there was a strange rattle from the front I think every time I went through a big puddle of water on the road. I can't imagine how water would do that to anything other than the fan belt but that would be more of a screech and I don't think water would get up there anyway.

the water isn't the cause of the rattle. Have you looked at your shock/dampeners? Also go through the front and check to see what bolts are tight. Do you know what side the rattle is coming from?

Its only when I drive through big puddles and as I exit there is this loud rattle coming from underneath around the rear seat area, so drive(prop) shaft in the right area.
It slows down with road speed , not engine speed!
Could water soaking the prop shaft be the cause for any reason? Its very loud now but disappears after a few seconds out of the water. Very odd!

Could be brakes. I know with my old jeep if I got too much mud on the front right caliper, the whole thing would move around. And my guess is it's got to do with wheel rotation if speed affects it.

Its a rotational rattle, by that I mean its something that is turning around and slows down as the vehicle slows down and speeds up the same way.
As I said, all I can think is the shaft or UJ's getting wet and somehow causing the noise. It's very wierd
