Rattling sound when taking off?
I have been getting this rattling sound underneath my center console kinda like right uner the cupholders (for those that have them) it only happens when I first take off from a dead stop and when I give it a little gas. If I slowly ease on the gas it wont happen but otherwise it does for just a few seconds between about 2 and 10 mph. Does anyone have any ideas? I hope its not serious. thanks!!

man does the SAME exact thing. exactly as you described. only i have a 5speed. the only thing i can think it is would be is the exhaust rattling on the crossmember. as i let of the clutch, if i don't give it a bunch of gas i will hear the rattle. i think it is because of the engine rpms dropping down lower making the engine kind of vibrate more, in turn shaking the exhaust and making it rattle on the crossmember right below you...good luck i hope this helps

i got the same sound also.. i belive its my ujoints and prob wont hurt to replace your trans mount

ok thanks guys im pretty much clueless i think its coming from the tranny but ill check it out.

If it is a light rattle, check out your 4wd linkage the bushing wears on the outboard side - the likage makes noise

do all you have cats still ?
|
i do, and it could possibly be that too. my old jeep's cat's head shield was loose and would rattle if the RPMS or vibrations were right.

I have a rattle when I give it gas and from the drivers seat it sounds like it coming from the tranny area but it isn't in my jeep. It is coming from one of the air vents. I figured this out because I noticed that it only rattles when there is no heat or air on. Don't know for sure if this is yalls problem but I thought I would put it out there.

ok thanks alot guys now I have a bunch of things to check. I do know the 4 wd linkage doesn't have a bushing because I had to repair it and I couldn't find a bushing anywhere at all so I just welded it up tight. If thats all it is that's great I just hope its nothing serious. Anyone else have an idea?

I hear you, I have the same rattle and I can assure you it is not the cat or a loose part that I could see.

Thanks a lot captainwoot your diagnosis was absolutely spot on. The 4 wd linkage on the outboard side was missing the bushing, I snuck two heavy duty zip ties in the small space criss cross style and it worked great, took up that few millimeters of extra room where the linkage was rattling and that totally fixed it. No more rattling. I shift into 4 wd and nothing is affected. Thanks alot. Anyone else with this problem, might consider crawling under and playing with the linkage to see if it's tight. |
Check the heat shield tons of rattle ours was the heat shield and the cat itself. The cat was bad and replaced and low and behold the rattle was gone.

mine did it bad till iripped the heat shild off my cat, now it doseit a lil bit its just ur exhaust hitting the crossmember.. i also have a 5 speed :2guns:
