rattle coming from stick shift

rattle coming from stick shift
i have a 98 xj 5 speed. at 2k rpms i hear a rattling sound that seems to be coming from the base of the shifter. my wife says it sounds more like grinding but it's more of a rattle to me.
just recently i've replaced the AC condenser, dryer and liquid line, install a stereo and speakers, a 3" rough country life and 31" tires.
i suspect the lift may be the cause but i had the lift on for about a week before this rattle started. i am getting some slight driveline vibs so i was going to drop the TC 1" this weekend.
any thoughts?
