Random Horn On??????
So my sister called me freaking out today because her neighbors called her and her 01 xj was sitting outside her apartment with the horn blasting. I guess it started randomly and then just all of a sudden stopped a couple hours later. I'm guessing it went out because the battery died, but I'm puzzled about how it just started and stayed on constantly. Any ideas..............PS her car is in Michigan and she is at home visiting the family for the holidays.

My 2000 Cherokee Sport experience
My wife was driving, horn started blowing and wouldn't stop. She pulled into a parking lot at called me. I drove up there but the horn was off and inoperative by then. Called the dealer and they said bring it in. They said horns burnt up, wiring was corroded, it was wear/tear and not covered by the 5 year extended warranty I'd bought - it was about 1 year old with around 10,000 miles on it. I pitched a fit about the "normal wear/tear - corroded wires crap. They relented and told me if I'd pay the $50 deductible they'd fix it.
A few months later (had about 18,0000 mile on it by then) the thing was sitting in the driveway and we were out walking the dogs in the back lot. The horns came on. I pulled the fuse before the horns could burn up and again we took it to the dealer. This time they told me the horn relay had burnt up/shorted out and if I'd pay the $50 deductible they'd fix it.
At about 26,000 miles it did it again. This time it burnt up the horns again. I didn't waste time calling the dealership as it was obvious to me the horns/wiring, etc. were pieces of crap.
I checked the horns (mounted in a perfect spot to catch all kinds of dirt, water, etc. right there in the corners of the front bumper) and found I had power to the horns if the horn "button" on the steering wheel was pushed. I drove down to Advance Auto and bought a couple of cheap plastic horns (plastic won't rust) for about $13 each and installed them in the same location as the factory horns. The Sport has just over 100,000 miles on it now with no horn issues since I got rid of the factory metal horns.
YMMV. I've kept the Sport but there won't be any more Jeeps for me, at least not ones were I "deal" with a dealer. It didn't surprise me when they went out of business (used to be located on Broad Street in Richmond, VA).
