Default Ranco "Probe" AC Evaporator Core

Wondering if any patrons here are familiar with a "Ranco" AC evaporator after market "probe."

Googled it. Do not see the exact product. I believe, based on the diagram in the 1991 - 1993 Mopar Parts Catalog, that the item is after market. There is no such device in the list.

Please see the photo. The "probe" is pictured on-top of the replacement AC evap core. The device cannot be "installed" in the replacement core, as there is a "cap" on the replacement. The "probe" was installed in the old core in the visible hole, through the top of the plastic outer case. New core has "body armor." No way to insert the probe.

Not sure what the probe does. Can guess. But research is required as to the exact function... and what is going to happen if I do not install the probe.

Found a part listed on eBay "Mopar 55035503 Electric A/c Thermostat OEM Part." And part number 5503 5503 is listed in the catalog. However, a) the "probe" is not pictured, b) the part on eBay has a label with part number 5503 5641, which is a part for the Diesel Engine. That is confusing.

I put my new thermistor on the side of the evaporator, then used AC putty to insulate from outside air.

There are pictures there. I did find a NOS thermistor, but Rancor did make them for MOPAR. The Rancor thermistors will be just a few degrees off from the MOPAR unit.

Thank you, Dusty!!

And oh my goodness, can you come work on my XJ?! You are pro for sure. From what I saw, you have built a Davis AutoSports quality XJ.

Thanks again.
