Default Radio Works But No Sound

My radio stopped producing sound on my '99 Cherokee. I switched out the radio to another one that I know is working but still no sound from the radio or CD. The display acts as if it is playing. Anyway, I am guessing that there is a connection to the speakers that has come loose, but the ones behind the radio seem fine. Is there somewhere else that would have a speaker connector that could effect all four speakers? Thanks

Are you certain that the speakers are routed directly to the deck/head unit in the dash? Is it possible that they are connected to an amplifier that is hiding out somewhere in the vehicle (under a seat, behind a panel, etc.)?

If you are certain they are routed directly to the stereo, it would be rare to lose all the speakers (completely) at the same time.

Is the HU stock oem?
Might be a loose or disconnected connector down stream somewhere.
If it were a shorted speaker wire, i'd think the other stereo channel would still work depending on what kind of output stage these stock radios have.

Thanks for the replies. We were able to find the problem. There were actually two shorts. One was in the right front speaker itself. The other somewhere in the wiring going to the back right speaker. It's sure odd that something that was working develops two problems around the same time. Anyway, I took the back right speaker and installed it in the front right door and capped off the wires for the back right speaker. So now there are three speakers working. When I get the time, I'll run a new wire for the back since finding the short will be difficult. Thanks again.

Wow, two speaker shorts showing up at the same time!

Yeah, thanks for the follow up which i've been noticing that a lot of people don't do here. Some ask for advice never to be heard again.
Follow ups are important IMO as a learning tool.

I agree about following up with any resolution. It would seem that anyone who took the time to reply is owed that as a courtesy. Thanks
