Default Radio install.

There is not really enough room for my radio and aux adapter (89 Renix XJ), where it is currently located. I was thinking about removing the little cubby peice in front the the shifter. Was wondering if anyone knew how much space there is in that area as far as between the console peice and the trans tunnel? Maybe thinking maybe removing the ash tray peice or modifying it to install the radio, if there is not much room. Thanks in advance.

Also any other suggestions about it would be great.

I have a kenwood in my stock radio location with aux running for subs plus extra aux wires that I tucked behind the glovebox. theres no where near enough room for it in that cubby the floor is like 1.5" deep.

are you talking about depth or are you trying to get a double din to fit in the single spot

Just depth and area, it is a single din.

Like I said, I dont know exactly what is all there, and is partially why I was thinking about removing the ash tray as well. And did you remove the box to fit stuff behind there?

No I didnt remove anything I just tucked the wiring over out of my way. I had the same radio installed in my s10 and that had less room and I still made it fit.

Well, when I installed the stereo I did not see much room to tuck the cords away. And since my deck has a motorized face I can angle it, I figured I would see if I can fit it down below.. kinda for theft deterent also.

If the console was wider, I would consider it. But I would have to place it sideways, and its out of the way and would be a pain to push buttons while driving. Also, it is a detachable face so its not so much that. But there just is not enough space for it to sit inside the stock location.
