radiators

went to napa today to order my all metal 2 copper row to replace my plastic tanked single aluminum row.

The guy behind the counter said the 2 row units made of copper are obsolete bc the the aluminum single row are more efficient, and the plastic tanked units dont heat up as much as the brass tanks, and thats why jeep when to the single row.

I told him that if i had the heavy duty cooing package from the factory i would've had a 2 row, and he just stood there staring at me.

Someone confirm for me that this guy is a douche by telling me they have switched from single row plastic tanked aluminum core to a 2 row copper brass tanked unit and saw much better cooling performance.

If your jeep is stock either way you shouldn't have a cooling issue. I just ordered the 2 row aluminum off of ebay to replace my stock leaking one. I have a country and the heavy duty package so not sure if my old one was 2 row or not but the new one is working great and was only 53$ free shipping. Good luck,
Lee

All aluminum works fine, so does copper it is just that aluminum works as good and is really a lot less expensive. Get a two or three row aluminum radiator with aluminum side tanks and you'll be good.

Check out these guys

The only factory OE 2 row rad I've seen listed is for a right hand drive postal jeep. Factory HD cooling consists of 2 rad fans, 1 efan and 1 belt driven.....standard cooling was 1 belt driven fan. Don't think any auto mfg. has used copper/brass rads for last 15-20 years. Sounds like your NAPA dude is fairly savy regarding OE rads.

mine is 2 row aluminum from ebay 53$ shipped and has plastic sides but is lifetime warranty against defects so I am not to worried. Either way I could buy 2 for the price of one at autozone.
Good luck,
Lee

Probably a moot point and hope I don't have to find out but, if our AutoZone OE 1 row style rad should spring a leak (lifetime warranty), it can be exchanged and have the new replacement back in and the DD XJ back on the road in 2-3 hours.:scooter:

Id say it's moot because I paid half as much and if it does happen to spring a leak, I can have one in a few days and distilled water would work fine until then. :tt2:

That's a relief, u'll only be down a few days instead of a few hours. I feel better already.

maybe down an hour. distilled water would keep me going til the new radiator came :tt2:
