The leaky radiator on our 2001 Cherokee Sport has a pair of rubber mounts on top that use two smaller nuts to affix the mounts to the radiator's two studs and then a larger single nut to secure the rubber mounts to the top radiator bracing (the isolator has it's own stud built into the rubber for the large nu This is the isolator found on the installed (leaky radiator. I need this short two-stud arrangement to mount the isolator The new radiator has this-three long studs!
t).
Now I find the replacement radiator looks identical to the leaking radiator except in place of two short studs to accommodate the isolator on each side it had three too long studs which make the isolator impossible to attach.
So what is going on here? Why the difference and what is the best solution? Thank you.
The radiator box is marked "Tongshi" with no country of origin (was purchased in Mexico). Anyway, after looking the new radiator over a second time, I found the outside studs are not needed so I cut them off with a Dremel tool. The other two studs are correctly positioned to accommodate the radiator insulators except they are way too long and interfere with the radiator upper support bracket. So I cut them down to about half their original length so they would not inhibit the fit. Then I found the studs I cut down do not have the same thread size and/or pitch as the factory nuts. So I went down to the nut/bolt shop down the street and found four nuts that would fit. Finally got everything back together. (not related, but now the horns are going off by themselves and the "airbag" dash light stays on all the time-no trouble codes showing on a OBDII scan either).
The plastic shroud for the metal radiator fan is a big pain. It didn't look possible to fit it back on with the radiator installed so I kind of set in place first around the metal fan. But then the shroud got in the way of installing the radiator. Then I pulled on the shroud real hard to move it and it broke into four pieces. Still not sure after all that messing around with the shroud how anyone gets it back on in one piece. Any clues would be appreciated as I plan on replacing the shroud as soon as I get a hold of another one. Thank you.
