Quietest Muffler

HI All, Looking for the Quietest Muffler out there. I have a flowmaster that came with the vehicle and Its too much for me. Drones and hides the sound of my music on the highway and around town I just dont want that sound drawing attention. Is there a quiet muffler that will not decrease my performance? Is stock the way to go? Do the stock units hold up well? IE can I go to the JY and grab a decent unit off a grand or other vehicle? Ive read lots of threads on this. Thrush Turbo keeps being mentioned but I looked at it at the parts store and Im thinking it is going to be similar to the flowmaster I already have. Thanks in advance. capdaddy

Go with Gibson Performance, no power drone but excellent throaty sound outside.

My '97 Grand Cherokee still has the original muffler on it and when I asked the muffler guy about replacing it, (when I had the cat replaced), he said it was stainless and still in great shape. Look for one from a V8 Grand. I know the '97 at least is long lasting and flows quite well, and is very quiet. It's more of a rectangle shape viewing from the end, rather than round or oval, and has a Chrysler star emblem stamped into the metal.

Thanks for the replies guys. I will have to search the JY for a grand to make sure the brackets line up. capdaddy

decrease your performance?? from what?

STOCK? no, obviously a OEM muffler wont do that. you want cheap and quiet, instead of paying for a stock unit at the JY put an ad out to TRADE someone for their good condition OEM unit for yours.. and the ywill likely even thrown in a few bucks on their end. Then take that OEM one and after you clean it up, before you install it, cover it with a coat of POR-15.

i dont know of any aftermarket performance exhaust that doesnt increase sound.

i'd trade you if i wasnt across the ocean.

thrush turbo is quiet (too quiet for me, but I dont have the money for a different muffler.)
You can barely hear it in the cab, and its not that loud outside.

Bought it a couple months ago, but thinking of going back to straight pipe.

um you could go with the dynomax kit if you want a kit, it sounds pretty good, louder than stock but not as loud as any other brand name mufflers, I think they are still doing the rebate of $75 and its all bolt on. I got the 93+ version cheapest on amazon for $143 shipped. 92 and below are cheaper like close to $115ish. Otherwise just their mufflers have like a $25 rebate as well.

either go with thrush or dynomax. i have dynomax on mine and they are not that loud.

OK Thanks guys. Dynomax with a rebate... Sounds better than sloshing through the JY. Its been raining here all day. Also I just ordered some Fatmat to hopefully quiet the interior even more. I might hold off on the muffler install till i find out if that helps enough or not. capdaddy
