Quick question which should get a quick reply.
With a 3.5" lift. Will i need to drop the tranny or mess with the angle of the drive shaft. OR will it basically be a bolt the springs shocks and arms on and go? Advice would be nice please. Thanks.

you will not touch the tranny. remove old suspension parts, replace with new ones. for 3.5 you will need new lower arms, stock uppers will suffice. Check ur brake lines to make sure you have room to flex. for 3.5 inches...you may or may not need to get a SYE (slip yoke eliminator)....depends on the jeep. You get one of these to get rid of vibrations that are caused from extreme rear driveshaft angles. the sye replaces the tail shaft in the transfer case, allowing u to run a longer, double cardon driveshaft. Hope that helps.

It depends on your year. 97+, probably should get a SYE. Yearlier years, probably just a drop if that at all. At 3.5" you should get an adj. TracBar, but you can get away with redrilling it over

I did a 3" lift and I couldnt even drive as the driveshaft would bind. Dropped the t-case an inch with a homemade drop (steel square tubing) and all is fine.

the TC drop may get rid of the vibes (if you have them)...but its just putting a band aid on the issue. Also, you are defeating the purpose of a lift by dropping down a portion of your XJ.

So what is the verdict? I need to know. My last lift had some serious vibration issues. due to the drive shaft angle being horrible. My first encounter with the serious issue was on the highway. I pushed the gas and my tach and speedo went through the roof. and I felt like I was in neutral. I looked back to see a car swerve around my drive shaft and about crapped my pants. thankfully I got pulled over in time to run back and get it without being killed. Sad Day...... As far as a lift. I am going to do 3". I want a little more clearance. The purpose of the build is because of a future move to maine. I want to be able to get around just fine up there. so i figure 3" and good tires would be great to still be a great daily driver and not kill my gas mileage to bad. So do I just need a SYE or what? With my other jeep. I had a custom cv drive shaft built and he took out the slip yoke and had it attach directly. Anywho. Advise would be great. I dont mind spending the money to keep my ride very drivable.

You can also put some degree shims on the spring perches when you bolt the springs on, it will change the angle of the axle. I've got a 3" lift and no SYE... yet, but I don't really get any vibes at all. You'll need to play around with the shims though to get a decent angle.

Just get the SYE if you don't care about the money, but it depends on your jeep (like already stated). You will have to find out when you do it. Pre 97 I don't think you will need an SYE or drop kit.

You still have not said what year your jeep is. If its the black one in your pics then there is a distinct possibility that you will have vibes after the 3" lift and you will then have to address it one of the two ways listed above. You will not know for sure until you install the lift unfortunately as it seems that all XJ's are a little different. All anyone can really say with any certainty is that the newer ones are more suceptable to vibes after lifting even small amounts. I know its not much help but unless you want to do an sye anyways, you'll have to wait and see.

an SYE will be a much more permanent fix for you, i had pretty bad vibes with my 01 when i did my 3.5" lift. but after the sye it drives pretty well, and i drive to and from school sometimes through the mountains.
