Okay, I suspect I know where this is going, so let me put it another way:
Stick with 15" or 16" rims and normal or larger tires. If you put 22" rims on a Cherokee, it will look really ****ing stupid. If you decide to ghetto up your ride anyway out of an abundance of bad taste, you will probably want to keep that secret, because otherwise it may draw members with pitchforks to your future threads. At a minimum people will laugh at you.
It's one thing to do that to a generic mini truck, because some of those are not all that capable to begin with and no big loss. It's irritating to see it done to an S10. But to do it to an XJ is a complete waste of a good truck.

Stock XJ rubber measures out at around 28" diameter. Without lifting or trimming you can fit 29". What combination of rim and tires you use to get that is your problem. Factory used a 15" diameter rim with about 6.5" sidewall tires. You can do arithmetic, right? Lol
Lmao.

Okay, that's not so bad.
These trucks look meanest with big meaty tires. The bigger the rim, the less meaty tires you'll be able to run. Some of the meanest looking rigs on this site have cheap steel 15" rims that look like crap off the truck.

17x9 rims on a stock XJ, with rubber no larger than 29", is going to look kinda like a race car. Low profile and really wide. Stock rims are only 7" wide with 5.75" backspacing.
