Default Question's on my 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport

Hey Guys,

Over the weekend i bought my first car...as the title states, 1999 Jeep Cherokee Sport. Just a couple questions that i have..
-The headliner is loose, any quick fixes?
-what type of oil should i use? planning on doing an oil change this weekend.
-There is no jack under the back seat, what is the best jack to get? or is anybody selling one?
I am also thinking of doing some add ons...
-what brand mats do you guys use? and from where did you buy them?
-and if i was to add in a radio...what is good radio for my money?

Thanks so much jeepers!!!
looking forward to using the forum!!

Well, you can open a can of worms with the oil question. Some guys run diesel 10W30 and some guys use 0W30, and some more use regular 5W30, 10W30 or 10W40. I would suggest using and oil the meets the current SN specifiaction set by SAE and the correct wieght as called by the manufacturer in a cherokee I believe it was 5W30.

The headliner will probably have to be pulled and re done

Go to the junk yard and get a jack for $10

Any radio name brand I have found good service out of like Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, and Alpine sooo take your pick

Ohhh, and congrats on the first set of wheels

- Head liner fix is relatively easy. If I were you I would redo it in some sort of camo or fabric with a design.

- I just use 5w-30

- Find a jack online or junkyard for cheap

- Quadratec floor mats fit perfectly and I recomend them

- My Sony Xplode head unit is cheap and does the job. I also have infinity reference speakers, a kenwood amp and 2 12" subs

Welcome! Post a pic of your jeep shop we know watcha got :P
-headliner: if you use the search function I'm sure you'll find exactly what you're looking for
-oil: it depends on where you live, the temperature has a lot to do with it, also what you plan on doing with your jeep. Ask your local parts store what they think would be best.
-mats: its all preference really, do what works best for you.
-jack: you can probably find a dinky one at a junkyard, or a newish one at harbor freight or something.
Good luck, and welcome to the forum!

6 quarts! And you might want to avoid the Fram filter and pick up a Wix, Purolator, etc. The Fram letting oil drain back to the pan when shut off seems to be a recurring theme.

Great looking Jeep!! I also have a 99 Cherokee. on the oil, check out the owners manual, and also it depends on the mileage. higher miles= higher viscosity.

Good Luck!!

If you don't mind, where are you? What's mileage? approx. price?
I am starting to look for one for my 20 YO twins and this is exactly what they want.

To go along with the oil, you might consider an oversized filter: eg: The regular NAPA gold filter is 1085 but the oversize one is 1515. Both fit ,but the 1515 can hold an extra 1/2 qt of oit. There are some other brands that have an oversize filter also.
