Questions about SYE.
I'm in the process of converting my 2wd Cherokee into a 4wd. Now I have some questions dealing with my 4.5" lift and SYE.
1. Can I drive with out an SYE? I know I will have vibrations but cause funds are low can I get away without a SYE for a few weeks?
2. When I add an SYE how long of a drive shaft do I have to get?

1. depends on the jeep and you won't know till the lift is installed.
2. the length of the shaft will have to be measured there is no set in stone length as each jeep is different.

Yeah you'll be aight without one for a while at 4.5" I'd install a 1" TC drop while your lifting it. You can use a front driveshaft from any auto XJ and itll work. Thats what I got on mine.

Remember the statement made by OKC "Every Jeep is different". So if you expect it to get away w/o a SYE yours may be the one which can't back out the driveway w/o a SYE. Or it may never need one for on road use but need one off road. Cherrokee Jeeps are not like any other vehicles.

I was one of the ones who couldn't hardly drive mine without an SYE, as it felt like I was in a big green paint mixer.

Lift first, modify second. To save you some pennies:

and find a front shaft somewhere.

I am driving my 98 without a SYE installed at 4.5. I have some vibes not unbearable and have the PORC SYE waiting for an install. But like everyone has said it depends on your XJ.
