Default Question, acting odd on hills.

I just recently, a few days ago, was able to buy back my ole Jeep.
It's a 1995 Cherokee, 4.0, automatic.
I only drove it a few days, but didn't really drive it far. Runs fine! I missed it!
My wife took it to work today, ended up calling me when she got there.
She said it ran good and strong, but when she tries to climb any hills, it starts bucking and dying, like it has no power.
But on the level it's fine.
Does this sound like a fuel filter? I never changed it, and the guy I got it back from did nothing to it.
Honestly, I think the kid before me never did anything either. I am thinking that fuel filter, maybe under the truck? Can that cause it? If not I am lost.

If it has a replaceable fuel filter, I'd replace it, plus a complete tune up while you're at it.

^^ Filter is in the area of the rear driver's side tire. Plug wires are another common cause of bucking/misfiring under load.

Worth checking o2 sensors as well?

OMG!! She ran the damn thing so low on gas, its a wonder she made it home. Problem solved...ugh!!
I am going to change the filter, and tune up also, just so I know where I am at with it.

Yes, for sure. But humiliating!
I am going to go over it today, and flush the coolant, looks dirty.

I was just about to say that with the pre 97 fuel pumps are situated that if the gas is low enough and the hill is steep enough the gas will roll away from the front of the gas tank where the fuel pump is enough to cause that.

Looks like you figured that out though.
