question about a SYE
Im getting the 4.5" RC lift for my 98 and im thinking of ordering this SYE http://www.performanceoffroadcenter....roducts_id=153
so I can use the front DS out of another auto cherokee? is this correct? just making sure and getting everything together i need. thanks |
i have herd you can if you have an auto. but i would measure the front
ds to make sure. with my 5 speed i had to leathen the ds 4", with 5.5 of lift. most people use a heaver ds on the rear with bigger splines. im using a stock ds now with out any problems YET. |
also a front DS of a zj would work. theyre 2" longer. chances are you wont need a sye with 4.5" but you wont know for sure until the lift is on.
|
From what Ive searched and read most say a 97 and up will need a SYE due to the tail shaft being shorter coming out of the TC on those models, but Jason from roughcountry told me I wouldnt need one at 4.5 even on a 98 so this is a little confusing. But since mine is my DD I dont want to put the lift on and then find out I need a SYE and have to park it and wait on a SYE.

put the lift on, i think a tranfercase drop kit comes with your lift and if it don't order one their cheap, put the lift on the jeep withput the drop kit at first, take the jeep for a ride up to 55 mph paying attention to vibrations, especially on decell., if you have vibration put on the drop kit untill you order the sye, believe me bud its worth it in the long run.

if youre going to get a SYE check out Iron Rock offroad. they sell a kit that comes with the SYE and a refurbished driveshaft for 199 iirc.
|
If your Jeep is anything like mine, you WILL need an sye with a RC 4.5" lift. They told me the TC drop should be enough, but it is not. I have a 99 and now I need to get an SYE. I was leaning toward the Ironrock hack n tap with front shaft but that is a great price. I may go that route instead.

Hey, Ive recently installed a Hack n' Tap SYE from IRO on my 99 cherokee. I was able to do it by myself in about 2-3 hours. It makes a world of difference and Ive been driving it now for about 4 months with no problems. Every product Ive gotten from IRO has been excellent quality with amazing custom service, and its hard to beat a SYE kit for 200 bucks!!

Are you using a front shaft? What year, auto, TC, axle, lift???? |
Im going to go ahead and order the SYE and search the junkyards for a front DS. Im a little worried about installing it cause ive never messed with a TC before. Wish me luck guys and thanks for the responses.

Upon some searching, it looks like the site referenced above has terrible customer service. I doubt I will go with them from the way I have heard things have been going.

I was over on the naxja site and seen alot of bad stuff myself about them too, glad I didnt order yet.

The IRO SYE kit comes with a refurbished front DS from a late year cherokee. I drive a 99, stock auto trans, NP231, Dana 30 front Chrys. 8.25 rear, with 4.5" of lift. One problem I did encounter was that the replacement DS they sent me I'm guessing was meant for a D35 rear because it was barely to long(due to the Chrys. 8.25 having a slightly longer pinion than a D35), I had to cut the tail shaft off slightly more than recommended in order to make it fit correctly.
