Question about a starter.

So my starter went bad on my XJ. In a moment I'm going to buy a new one from NAPA for $103.99. I have a few questions and was wondering if anybody could help.

- Is this something my brother and I could probably install ourselves, switching the old one with the new one?

- Will a new starter decrease the time it takes for my Jeep to start? Usually I had to hold the key for a couple seconds to get it to start.

Thanks.

its an easy swap with basic tools
just disconnect the battery

it should help with start up time but you may need a new fuel pressure regulator or fuel pump

I have a new fuel pump and regulator already, installed about a month and a half ago. Thanks buddy!

The time it takes to start is a "JEEP THING" all the jeeps with 4.0's that I have heard always take a few seconds to start...Tj

IF your hard start problem was that the starter was weak or failing, the new starter will be solution. But you may have other starting issues, Battery, fuel, ignition, grounds, ect. any of these could the real starting problem and may have contributed to the starter failure.
At the very least change or upgrade your battery cables and check the ground wires when you change the starter. Would also be a good idea to have the Battery and alternator tested.
