Default Push button start switch help?

Hi all. Is there any write up handy that will walk me through how to put a push button start on my 98 XJ? I’ve changed the ignition switch and the actuator and at times you have to rock the key forward 5-6 times to finally make contact to fire. Once it does...it’s usually good. Seems to happen when it’s colder also. I’d like to just bypass and have it where you turn the key to RUN and push a button. Any help is appreciated. I’ve searched but didn’t quite see what I was looking for....and I’m an electrical noob.

Thank you.

Been searching some more and may have found what I need. So if I run a 10ga wire from the small post on the solenoid....to one side of the PB...then leave the PB and connect to a 12 volt source like my battery or ignition wire.....would that work?

There are several ways to do it. Simplest would be to run a hot wire to the switch then from the switch to the solenoid. But then it will be powered constantly and you would be running alto of amps through alto of wire and risking something burning up. A better way would be to place a fuse inline. Better yet would be to power a relay with the switch and have the power from the battery run through the relay to the starter .the best way would to splice into the necessary existing wires that run from the ignition switch to the starter relay .

Simplest way to do it is with the hot wire

No, you have a starter relay in the power distribution center. That operates the starter solenoid. It takes too much current for the average switch

Did you try holding the key over on start while jiggling the shiftier on park and neutral? You might just have a gummy NSS. (worse when cold). BTW there are indeed push-button switches that can handle the current. Fuse the hot wire to it right near the battery, guessing 25 amps would handle it, might be a little more....

Yep. Was my first thought. No issues there.
