Default pumpkin problems

i have a 2000 xj. i have a small hose that goes from the top of the front pumkin into my engine compartment. its caped off at the end which leads me to believe that its just used to fill fluid. where it comes out of the pumpkin though it must have rubbed into something and is torn apart leaving in open. im not leaking anything, so i was wondering if this is something serious or can i take my time with this. just wondering cause winter is here and im worried about my 4 wheel, which still works by the way. any help is apprieciated, thanks

Its fine, its a vent. If you do water crossings you want that as high as possible.

For future reference;

Yes, install a new line if possible. Keeping it up high keeps the oil clean.

If not your pumpkins grin will turn sour.
