i'm in the process of getting a JY trans and want to make sure i get the right tools for this, especially for the tranmission bolts. i heard about the e12 torx bolts so I'll get myself the socket needed for this, but my question is mainly about the extension to reach those sockets. should i get one that swivels? 24" or 36"?

anything else i should get while I'm at it that can make this not a PITA?

Others likely know better.....
For the CPS which is a similar booger, a short extension from the socket to a swivel, then to the long is the ticket. Assuming the cross-member is out, it won't be in the way. Never did a 4.0, but on at least a few others I went really long, using my 1/2 drive, then reducing to 3/8 so I had a mile. Probably better to crack them with 1/2 in. drive, but after that "going long" can ease things. IIRC 2 feet puts you about at the cross-member.

cant have too many extensions. i used to check pawn shops and often found sears stuff cheap. i bought all the ext i found. used a bunch on the top starter bolt last week. sears if busted you get a new one!

yeah i watched both videos they made about it, but at his junkyard he seems to have a lot more room than me under there. i dropped the cross member and still have a hard time reaching all the bolts. I'll eventually figure it out, and go with many extensions. thanks guys

I just pulled two.
Used a 36" extension, swivels just **** me off, I don't use one unless necessary, then I wrap electrical tape around it.

FYI:
One of the trans had two E10 bolts as the top two.
The other had two 1/2" hex head bolts.
