Pretty sure im stumped, 93 cherokee wont start! 4.0 straight 6
Hello friends,
This is a first time post so hopefully I can get some needed answers!
Up until 2 days ago my 1993 Cherokee Country was running great. Car died in my driveway with the problem being no spark to plugs. Initially I replaced the ignition coil, which was too quick of a decision as it ended being the crank position sensor. So a quick switch of the CPS and spark was achieved!
Unfortunately that did not solve the 'no start' issue.
Upon inspection I found that my Stator had snapped off its home inside the distributor and was blocking the signal. After a quick trip to my local O'Reilly's I was able to start on the process of replacing the entire distributor. I did make the mistake of not marking the distributor before removal .
After finding TDC, positioning the new rotor to piston 1, replacing the cap, replacing the wireset, yadda yadda yadda; STILL NO START.
I've looked extensively online through forums and as a result I went back and tried a few things.
- Tried switching the distributor 180 degrees
- Reset the ECU by removing negative terminal on battery
- Removed spark plug 1 and checked to ensure TDC was at 0 on harmonic blancer
- Reset distributor to make sure I wasn't being an idiot and missing something.
- Checked to make sure I was getting fuel to the rail
- Reset distributor AGAIN to make sure it was TDC on compression and NOT exhaust
STILL NOT STARTING ahhhhhhh!
Hopefully you made it through my tale of a post. If you did, any information or insight would be helpful.
THANKS!!

x2 plus, becarful getting TDC on the inline 6 pull the 1 spark plug and line up your marks, then make sure the piston is up. because the number 6 piston will be up and 1 be down even though the marks are lined up im banking on fuel though. even though you know you have spark, is it good spark? these xj's don't run with just some spark it needs to be pretty a blue. try shooting some eather in the intake.

cranks, but weak spark
ok, so the cps was bad. Now there's spark
then, the cam sensor was broken. replaced it
checked for tdc#1 with plug out, installed on compression stroke ok.
pulled all plugs. little fuel fouled from cranking. cleaned & reinstalled.
disconnected battery. no more codes.
changed fuel filter. now good pressure.
new cap, rotor, wires.
did notice when pulling & grounding plugs that the spark is kinda red, not bright blue.
cranks & when throttle wide open, sounds like it wants to start but won't.
HELP!
