preparing for the axel u-joints
Hi, i am hearing a grinding noise when i make turns.
since i cant really remember to much on which side its coming from
i want to change both of my u-joints behind the wheels
I have a 88 cherekee i keep hearing about some vacuum system i have to remove?
question: how and what is this?
can any tell me the type of axel on these jeeps and transfercase
i have alot of trouble identifying the bigger parts
being i brought it used i have no manual on a haynes book

You have a dana 30. if the passanger tube is straight you have a no-disco, but if there is a square bulge thing it is a disco. your transfer case is either a 231 or 242, but it should not matter for what your doing. If you have a full-time option of the 4wd shifter you have the 242

Wouldn't it be just wonderful if someone made like a write-up for this.. with pictures, a tool list and stuff like that?????

If you have a vacuum disco D-30.. the you don't have to mess with it at all. The u-joints are in the outer half of the shaft and you will remove it from the axle.
