Default Window switch

I have a 97 Cherokee. Had the same problem a few years ago. After ordering a new switch, ($90) I found that the problem was a worn wire between the door and door jam inside the rubber boot. Could have been a free fix with some electric tape.

Thanks for the good instructions. Picked up my 99 RHD XJ and discovered only the driver's door controls would work for the windows. The paper clip works great.

I had the same problem with the pax door window working only once in several tries. I changed it's switch and it still did the same thing. I searched all the wiring, shorted the safety, and still no help. I can't remember why but I changed the drivers door master switch and never had another problem with the pax window.

I have a 2000 Jeep XX two door with the passenger power window only working from the drivers side, jumper wire between the tan and yelowires not working, no broken wires but it appears the yellow wire terminates at the fuse block connector and doesn’t go to the passenger switch, does anyone have a photo of the right lower connector where the yellow wire terminates?

After reading about the tan/yellow wire jumper, I downloaded the XJ factory service manual, using the wiring schematics, I tested the drivers door module lockout switch and found it to be working, I then traced the yellow and tan wires to the passenger door power window switch and found the yellow wire terminates at a fuse block connector and a yellow wire coming from another fuse block connector going to the switch - this yellow wire showed no continuity between the tan/yellow wires when activating the lockout switch but the terminated yellow wire did... I cut the yellow wire going to the power window switch and spliced in the terminated yellow wire going directly to the drivers door module and it now works... what’s even better is the lockout switch works... just like it’s supposed to

My problem is slightly different than all of the above. My passenger side power windows do not work with their own switches or the driver's side switches. The passenger door lock works fine and the driver's side front and rear door power window and locks work fine. The lockout feature for the power window works for the driver's side rear window switch and does not have an effect of the passenger doors. So, to sum it up, the only problem I am having is with both passenger power window switches and the driver's control panel for the passenger power windows.

Both the driver and passenger side switches can suffer the same problem. Broken solder joints. I would resolder them all regardless because sometimes the cracks are hard to spot. If you havent already, also check the wiring in the door. If the wires look good, i would still check them for continuity as the strands can break inside the insulation. You can also check the switches to see if they are even getting power. I do not have my service manual handy atm to see what wires do what. Should you take the driver side switch apart, the D-pad does not come off like the rest. Leave it be. Be careful prying the rest off as they may stick hard and end up destroying them. Been there, done that.

If you go to a jeep dealer parts department they can look on their computer to see if any dealer still has one in stock, but the last Cherokee rolled off the line 19 years ago so chances of finding a new one are slim. Best to look on ebay, but you may have to fix THAT one too!

Mopar online retailers are still showing the one for my '00 4 door XJ. But if their inventory is correct that is a different story.
And they are not cheap. About $170 and that is without shipping.
I bought a new Napa. Been about 7 years now and still works so.....
But even that was not cheap but I work there so not quite as bad to me.

Rube Goldberg would be proud! I tried it but still the driver window will not go up. Why does this work for many others?
