AC 3 Not Working - NEED ADVICE
Hey guys,
I'm looking at a '97 Cherokee which I greatly desire, however, when the AC is put in the '3' spot, it does not blow (All others, 1,2,4 blow nice and cold).
How much will that cost to repair? My buddy said its probably the switch and around $300-$400, but he admits that is a SWAG.
ADVICE NEEDED.
Thanks!

Could be the blower resistor block (around $40).
If not, the HVAC Climate control panel (that contains the blower switch) can be found on Evilbay. I bought one here for$30 as a spare but I haven't checked for your year.
The bone yard is another source for the climate control panel. You're stuck looking for a '97 or '98 panel. '99 won't work nor will a '96 panel.

Thanks CCKen.
They are asking $5500, and I offered them $5000. They are talking to another interested party first, so we'll see.
I think $5000 for a '97 Cherokee with 196000 miles is fair - what do you say?
I'm not mechanical enough to take on the repair myself, so I'll have to pay for labor as well
Thanks Again.

That thing would have to have ZERO rust, and a perfect interior to even consider five grand.
196K is a lot of miles on the suspension and drive train components, let alone the engine.

CCKen,
Great info, thank you. Helps me not to feel like I'm passing up an amazing deal
The body is totally rust free, and the interior is in fantastic shape, I have to say.
They just replaced the cat. converter and fuel pump/sending unit. Also, they just put new headliner in.
Issues are the AC thing, the windshield has some big chips in it, and the cruise control indicator light works intermittently (but cruise works all the time).
The black trim is a bit faded to grey in places, but otherwise the white exterior is very nice.
Thanks again for the thoughts!
