Default Power Door Lock Actuators

The door locks in my '88 XJ don't work any longer and need some servicing and replacement actuators. OEM actuators cost a ton and I am hoping to use the inexpensive universal type found on amazon or ebay.

Have any of you folks used these actuators successfully? Any tips and tricks?

That write-up would be very useful for many instances of badly working power door locks...mine, however, aren't working at all and I was planning to just bypass the factory wiring and actuators. Ideally, this would be part of a security system I want in it.

Thank you for the link Cruiser!

I have a 94 JGC and I installed 2 of the ebay cheap ones and they have been working great for over a year. I did one front door and one rear door. Both took about an hour but I had access to a full shop with all the tools at hand. One I was able to use some factory holes in the door shell the other I had to drill 2 holes to put the mounting screws through.

Thank you ZJMax. I am just hoping that there aren't any major mods needed to make them work.
