Is it possible to replace the belt buckle without replacing the seat belt?
I currently own a 1991 Jeep Cherokee XJ and amongst a few of the problems, one of the more recent ones is the belt buckle on the driver side has broken, it will not lock into place and I believe the reason being is due to a plastic piece that broke on the inside that allows the belt to lock. My only issue is that I don’t know how to take it out, the video I watched showed the use of a screwdriver to pop the top off, but my belt buckle looks to be more heavy duty than the one in the video, and ultimately, I could replace it if I wanted to, but I would rather find a way to fix it then to resort to buying a complete new set.

It is held to the floor with one bolt. Take it out, head to a junk yard and pick up a replacement for a few dollars and bolt that one in place of the old one.

I bought a new one for mine from Jeep. But as said, you can just replace the female half of the belt. You can use either the junk yard option or the OEM option. Since it is a well used piece I chose the new part option

Seatbeltsplus.com will probably have what you need. My 95's front seatbelts have a small cut/fray where they go down into the trim and into the inertia reel, looks like something that just happens over time. Considering the safety aspect of them I really need to replace them and will be using new instead of used. Seatbelt webbing will eventually degrade due to age.
