Default Is it possible to get a decent but inexpensive cat converter?

my 1990 Laredo needs a new one, but I was hoping not to have to pay $200 bucks for one... and since y'all are probably a lot more in the know about this, I figured I'd turn here first for recommendations

Direct bolt on is the hope... does such a thing exist? Good cat, good price? or is it one or the other? :P

thanks muchly

If im not mistaken the rugged ridge high flow one is only ~150, ive been looking at them since I screwed up my exhaust welding job so bad I need a new cat to just start from scratch. Also im not sure but you might be able to get a working one at a junkyard.

Addition: Yea they actualy have them cheaper than that. http://www.quadratec.com/products/pr...74&b=c&sv=1000

That would be to easy, here in ca they cut them off,you cannot get them in a jy,not sure what they do with them, they also remove the gas caps.
Living here sometimes you forget just how strict it is here,it is just normal now.

I'm pretty sure it is illegal to sell a used catalyst. It is in Texas. The cats in junkyards are all sold to private companies who recover the precious metals and scrap the rest.
As far as I know all cat sold now are high flow. If you have evidence that a cat sold as "high flow" really flows better than a generic cat I'd be interested in seeing it.
Here's a pic of a very high flow cat

I don't see any one for pre-96 XJ's for less than $250 on the quadratec link, did I miss it?

And thanks for all the replies. I think I'd rather get a new one if I can, if I can find the right price.

I'll check summit racing though, thanks for that suggestion

Just get the universal fit cat, just match up the pipe diameter. The only diff between years is that some will be flange fit and others just pipe to pipe. You could just cut out the flange and weld up or clamp on the new cat.

I run a high flow stainless from magnaflow with a Hooker muffler and couldnt be happier then a pig in.....
