pops out of gear

pops out of gear
I was running down the high way with the cruise on about 65 and it jumped down a gear and the rpms went way up so i slowed down and after that it wouldnt shift past the gear i jumped down to if i shut the jeep off and restart it will work fine it did it to me twice today its a 1996 4.0 auto
any advice thanks
(i have been having a problem where some days it wont shift out of second and if i shut it off and restart it it will drive perfect for a couple days) (i replaced the tps and it shifted better for about a week is there a chance i got a bad tps from autozone)
