Default Start Up RPMS

My 94 cherokee with a 96 4.0 revs up to 1800 whenever it is first started while my 99 only revs to about 1200. The start up rpms are a little high, in my opinion, for the 94. Does anyone else's early xj rev up that high when it is first started? I want some oil to get to the top before the motor revs like that.

You mean RPM's after you start and let it idle? But otherwise normal RPM's?
If general high RPM's, an air leak or faulty TPS could be some of the causes

If only at idle, clean your throttle body/valve and IAC and see if that improves things.

After I first start it it immediately revs to 1800 and drops steadily to 800. It does not stay at 1800.

Do the cleaning first and if no change we can look further, like TPS.

mine fires up to about 1100 then quickly settles back down to 800 or so (cold) regardless of weather.

Thats normal. Of course there will be a short 'surge' in rpm on start up.
But to 1800 and then only slowly coming down, I think that could be looked into (and improved)..

I will go through some of the things listed to see if there is a difference.

Thanks

Clean your throttle body and IAC. If problems persist, think about replacing your TPS.

I could have the throttle body cleaned in the time it takes to take a video.

I don't need to see a video. Anyone else?

Huh?

I'm confused here. Not only at your response which makes no sense to me, but the following statistics and logic.

You've started 57 threads here.

Posted about 500 times in other people's threads offering them advice....

But now, you can't find time to clean a throttle body per people's suggestions as you must post a video of the symptom? Throttle body cleaning is pure and simple maintenance.....

What's a video gonna do? Show us 1800 RPM on a tach? I'm sure about 86.754% of us have seen that in our own Jeeps.
