Plastic Pain

I have a 97 red xj. The plastic trim has begun to fade with 100+ degree summers.

I'm looking for a solution to this. Should I take the plastics off and paint them myself or take them to a professional? If I do myself, whats the best course of action.IE. Sanding, Prepping, type of paint, etc. I've seen many threads on here dealing with painting black on black but never red on red.

Asking for a noob...

Thanks!

I cant see why you cannot do it yourself, using the correct primer, and suitable topcoat.

anything to be painted needs to be totally cleaned, then sanded or scuffed

Youtube will be your best teacher

It is a time/ v money issue too

are you going to remove each item (best practice)

if not, remember to mask well, and cover your entire vehicle with blankets!

Thanks for advice. I think I'll try to do it on my own. It couldn't be that hard. I think the big question is: use can spray paint or buy a small machine

You can probably purchase the same upholstery dye they use to dye the factory vinyl parts. It even gives you a chance to change the color of the panels, if you so desire. :)

vinyl & plastic are somewhat different

calculate how much area you have to spray (for cost)...cans will work
